The Map of Rhode Island Showing State, County and Town Boundaries.1906 by map publisher Geo. H. Walker & Co. is a definitive, large scale (and conveniently folding) color map that permits the viewer to take in the geography, topography and transit routes at the turn of the century as the automobile had yet to define the landscape and trains were the primary means of medium and long term travel within and passing through the state. This mammoth, yet stylistically unassuming map is a survey of the entire state and allows the viewer to see each town and county boundary, and to view each town in detail. This 1906 map's large scale makes it a good cartographic research reference for comparing town boundaries and settlement patterns to those shown on mid-19th and late 19th c. Rhode Island maps, and then again as a reference for comparing Rhode Island's infrastructure and highways beginning to be drawn on maps published after WWII when major infrastructure projects began to reshape the landscape in Rhode Island, and throughout the United States.
